Can hangers be used upside down for increased uplift capacity?

The UH, HUH and MHE hangers can be installed upside down (please enquire about other hanger types).

To determine the product’s uplift values, the hangers are tested upside down. Therefore the values can be used in reverse provided there is sufficient timber to nail all fixings.

For example, an MHE490-100-195 installed upside down will achieve 14.72kN CC down and 25.66kN CC uplift provided all fixings are filled with 3.4x35mm square twist nails.

All side fixings into the incoming member are required.
