Our products are designed by our experts to provide the correct corrosion protection for your floor/wall/roof applications. A designated galvanised coating has been selected to meet specification requirements.
Where metal fasteners and structural connections are utilised they must be inherently corrosion-resistant or be protected against corrosion to conform to Eurocode 5 (BS EN 1995-1-1:2004+A2:2014).
The minimum specification for corrosion protection depends on the Service Class use of the product. The UK National Annex to Eurocode 5 (NA to BS EN 1995-1-1:2004+A2:2014) states the following service classes.
What is galvanising?
Galvanising is a method used to apply a thin layer of zinc to the base material. Galvanising steel protects it from the surrounding environment and protects against corrosion.
There are several methods of applying a galvanised coating to steel and many coating designations available depending on the application.
What level of corrosion protection is available?
Within the Cullen Technical Guide the material specification is stated for each product within the ‘Material Specification’ section.
All special hangers are supplied with a zinc undercoat and an organic bituminous top coat to BS-2628-3 2005.
How do I know the corrosion protection is suitable for my application?
As long as the products are being utilised within the intended application our experts have selected the correct galvanised protection that is required for your floor/wall/roof application.
Timber to timber hangers are galvanised with a Z275 zinc coating suitable for use within Service Classes 1 & 2 (intermediate floors, warm/cold roofs etc). Where hangers are embedded into block work a greater corrosion protection is required and masonry hangers such as the JHI have a zinc coating of Z600.
It is not suitable to have timber-to-timber hangers that are carrying load embedded into block work due to potential corrosion issues.
Unfortunately for applications out with this (swimming pools etc) we cannot provide comment. The building engineer would need to be consulted for comment and specification.
